1.1.2 Storage and Handling Requirements
- Store fabric material flat on a raised surface minimum 70 mm above floor, in a clean, dry storage area where temperature is a minimum 7°C, maximum 30°C, with normal humidity. Do not store materials in upright position. Protect the end of rolled materials from damage. Maximum stack 4 rolls or less.
- Store toxic and/or explosive solvents and adhesives in properly ventilated areas.
- Take precautionary measures to prevent fire hazards with adhesives and solvents.
1.2 Waste Management and Disposal
- Separate waste materials for reuse, recycling and disposal at job site facilities.
1.3 Site Conditions
1.3.1 Ambient Conditions
- Maintain air temperature, surfaces and materials at minimum 20°C for 72 hours before, during, and 48 hours after application.
- No work from other subtrades that creates dust and particulate shall be allowed during wall fabric installation. Protect wall fabric from future dust and particulate creating work on site.
2. Materials
2.1 Polyester Wall Fabric — Type II
- Fabric weight: 217 g/m²
- Flame spread index: 5
- Fuel contributed: [0], [0], [5]
- Smoke developed: 150
- Fire rated custom printed polyester wall fabric weight: 31 g/m²
- Texture: linear silk pattern — products are non-woven polyester fabric backed
- Full wall fabric roll height: approx. 3.05 metres
- Custom printed area: maximum printing height 290 cm
- Printed surface: low-energy, eco-friendly UV photopolymerization inks — no VOCs, no toxic materials
2.2 Adhesives
- Shall be Dynamic, 212 Pro, Ultra Clear Wallcovering Adhesive or equivalent. Where permitted by the wall fabric manufacturer, use a water-based adhesive.
3. Execution
3.1 Conditions of Surfaces
- Ensure surfaces to receive wall fabric are clean, true, free of irregularities.
- Wall surfaces shall not vary in plane more than 3 mm in any 3‑meter dimension or at a rate of line greater than 5 mm per running meter.
- Ensure work penetrating substrate is completed before installing wall fabric.
- Inspect surfaces and job conditions before commencing work and report defects in writing to the Client.
- Prior to application, confirm wall moisture content does not exceed 6% and that litmus paper test confirms absence of alkali.
- If any trace of mold or mildew exists, remove it and treat surface to inhibit regrowth.
- Ensure surfaces scheduled to receive wall fabric are fully primed with a quality water-based white primer.
- Consult manufacturer if applying polyester wall fabric to existing finished surfaces (painted, metal, etc.).
3.2 Preparation
- Protect other surfaces and make good any damage caused by work of this Section.
- Remove electrical plates, surface hardware, fittings and fastenings prior to wall fabric operations; replace on completion in each area.
- Prepare substrate surfaces according to wall fabric manufacturer's recommendations.
- Mix adhesive as required to eliminate solids or particles that will telegraph through wall fabric.
3.3 Application
- Apply polyester wall fabric seamless, in railroad orientation.
- Follow the adhesive manufacturer's directions for mixing and applying adhesive.
- Apply adhesive to the wall surface using a roller and/or brush as applicable.
- Use fabric panels in exact order as cut from rolls; use rolls in consecutive order as numbered by manufacturer.
- Trim wall fabric with deeply textured patterns or patterns that must be matched on a flat worktable.
- For patterned matches, paste strips on the wall with edges tight, eliminating overlapped and open seams.
- For smooth, non-match patterns, paste strips on the wall, overlap edges and double-cut through both layers.
- Seams shall be plumb and true to line; eliminate air pockets and ensure full bond to the wall surface.
- Apply to areas above and below windows, above doors and similar areas in sequence from the roll.
- Remove excess adhesive from each seam before proceeding; wipe seam clean with moist white sponge, then dry towel.
- Install fabric securely, smooth, clean, without wrinkles, gaps or overlaps. Horizontal seams will not be accepted.
- Cutting at outside corners will not be accepted; cutting for inside corners shall be within 50 mm of the inside corner.
- Provide adequate and continuous ventilation during work and for 24 hours after installation.
3.4 Cleaning and Complete Guide to Daily Wallfabric Maintenance
- Wallfabrics are both attractive and durable, but they still require proper care in daily use. Regularly inspect your wall surfaces, especially during humid seasons. Address any unusual conditions promptly to prevent minor issues from becoming major repairs. When in doubt, contact the wallfabric brand or installer for professional assistance. Below are cleaning and maintenance recommendations for common situations.
- Removal of Surface dust: Gently sweep with a feather duster. Stubborn dust: Wipe with a dry towel, especially focusing on detailed textures or embroidery. It’s recommended to clean every six months, especially for embossed or embroidered wallfabrics.
3.4.1 Water Stains and Humidity
- Small splashes or moisture from rainy days: Simply wipe dry with a clean towel.
- Large areas of dampness or leakage: Use a blow dryer on low heat or turn on the air conditioner’s dehumidifying function to speed up drying. Keep the room well-ventilated to prevent moisture buildup and mold growth.
3.4.2 General Stain Removal
- Use a mild household water based cleaner and gently wipe with a towel. After cleaning, wipe with a slightly damp towel to remove any residue and dry thoroughly to avoid marks.
3.4.3 Oil Stain Cleaning
- Use a soft-bristle toothbrush with a cleaner to gently scrub the stained area, then wipe clean with a damp towel. For larger areas, repeat the process and finish with a cool blow-dry. Note: Clean oil stains promptly. The longer they remain, the harder they are to remove.
3.4.4 Pen Marks and Scribbles
- Spray a wall fabric cleaner onto the stained area. Use a towel dampened with cold water, wring it out, and wipe the area twice. Then dry with a blow dryer. If you have young children at home, consider setting up a designated “doodle wall” to avoid damage to your wallfabrics.
3.4.5 Mold Prevention and Treatment
- Wallfabrics have mold-resistant properties, but damp environments or poor wall preparation may still lead to mold. Key steps for prevention include: Ensuring the wall is free from alkalization, powdering, or pre-existing mold. Applying a quality base membrane and ensuring the wall is fully dry before installation.
